Contribute to conservation science in the community

Our volunteer opportunities allow members of the community to collect data that is vital to wildlife conservation in the West. Data collection trips in the field range from one-day excursions in the Wasatch Front to ownership of a research site for an entire field season.

You can get involved in our projects in many ways, including:

  • Counting shorebirds across Utah’s critical wetland habitats

  • Documenting boreal toads in wilderness areas

  • Identifying and sorting wildlife images captured by our trail cameras

  • Building beaver dam analogs (BDAs) to restore riparian areas

  • ...and more!

Whichever project you choose, you will be making a difference for wildlife and their habitats.

It’s important to note that each project requires a different commitment level. Some require that you simply show up, while others require training and a months-long commitment. Visit our current projects page to learn more about volunteer requirements, or sign up below to receive emails about upcoming trainings and opportunities.

Because we’re a small organization, we also appreciate volunteers that would like to lend a hand with office support. To learn more about all the ways you can get involved, please give us a call at 801-328-3550 or email us.

Please note that we value the safety and well-being of each of our volunteers and staff and are committed to creating an organizational culture where all are welcome. Volunteers and staff are required to treat with respect the diverse experiences, identities, views, and beliefs of volunteers, staff, and other individuals involved in projects.

To ensure that our projects support the unique backgrounds of our diverse participants, we have instituted diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, which you can read below.
